Summer Vacation

summersunrise.jpg

Summer's officially here in the tropics, and we've decided to give Baking is Hot a much needed vacation. After featuring almost 2000 beautiful baked goods, we need a little break from running the site, so we're not accepting submissions right now. We're definitely going to be doing some hot summer baking and visiting Baking is Hot for inspiration however - and we hope you will too!

We're also planning to update the site over the summer to make it fresher, more fun, and more interactive. We're really excited about the changes and we think they'll make the site even better.

Still we'll miss you, and if you miss us too feel free to contact us, say hi or send us a suggestion.

See you in the fall. :)

Fall/Winter Update + New Bloggers!

Hooray for fall and winter baking! As the seasons changed, we noticed the colors in the featured photos shift from light fruity summer hues to rich oranges and chocolaty browns. YUM! We're loving all of the wonderful spicy and seasonal goods everyone's submitting and sharing with us - thank you! Keep them coming!

We're super-excited to annouce that we just invited 4 new super-talented baking bloggers to be a part of the Baking is Hot team. A big warm welcome to Matt from Muffin Tin Mania, Nancy from Like Mother Like Daughters, Nicole from A dash of compassion, and Shanon from The Curvy Carrot. We're all so fortunate to have them on the team, sharing their fantastic baking and delicious writing with us all!

Happy baking everyone!

Summer Garden 2010

me in our summer garden

We had a really HOT summer here in Mexico. It was a such a treat to bake with the bananas, limes, and coconuts that grew in our yard (well technically it was our friends' yard as we were housesitting their awesome place for 3 months - lucky us!). A few weeks ago we moved into a new place that has orange and mandarin trees. That's got us excited with citrus season fast approaching. Speaking of seasons, this is the first time we've experienced the storm season down here and we recently had Tropical Storm Karl - which went on to become a hurricane - pay us a visit. That was, um, exciting! Fortunately we only had to deal with power and internet outages, and everything is back to normal now. :)

We have been drooling over all of your lovely summer baking pics - cherries, blueberries, peaches - YUM! Thank you for all your delicious submissions - please keep them coming! Now that fall's here, we're excited to see what you're baking up with this season's bounty.

In case you missed it, we recently held our first giveaway, and it was a blast! Thanks to all who participated and a big thanks to Bake it Pretty for the sweet booty. (Any cool baking companies want to sponsor our next giveaway? Please check out our opportunities page.)

We also picked up some very talented hot baking bloggers recently - more than just a summer fling we hope! ;) A warm welcome to Amanda, Ellen, Michelle, RiaSara - as well as our newest hot baker Deeba of Passionate about Baking, who is officially the hottest baker on this site - who else bakes when it's over +40C?!?

We're so happy to have these talented bakers blogging with us! Be sure to let them know how much you love them by leaving a nice comment on their blog.

On that note, you may have noticed we recently turned off commenting (though we'll still have commenting on for news and giveaways). We did this because the best way you can support us, and our contributors, is to click through and leave a sweet comment on their blog. If you want to be really nice, mention that you found them via Baking is Hot. ;)

Have a great fall (or spring for you folks downunder!) and feel free to drop us a line here, on Twitter, or on Facebook. Stay tuned for our next great giveaway and more stellar recipes!

Summer update + new bloggers

Star Flower

It's definitely summer here in Southern Mexico. That means the weather has gone from hot and dry, to hotter and wet. The plants love it, and there are pretty flowers blooming everywhere. We recently moved to a property with bananas, papayas and guanabana fruit trees. It's sooo lovely. When we're really hot and thirsty I can just go out and pick a coconut to make a delicious rum cocktail for Patty and me to share. :)

There's been lots going on around here at Baking is Hot too - like our new submission page - woo! We love the submissions we've been getting. Keep them coming!

We also want to wish Hanna from Honey and Jam, and Patricia from Technicolor Kitchen a super warm welcome. They recently joined our team of contributing bloggers and we're totally thrilled.

That's it for now. Enjoy the change of season wherever you are, and happy baking!
